Bayo Bashir Ojulari has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), bringing to the role a wealth of knowledge and experience as a distinguished Nigerian engineer. His extensive background encompasses expertise in petroleum, process, and production engineering.
Prior to his recent appointment, Ojulari served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Renaissance Africa Energy Company. Under his leadership, Renaissance successfully spearheaded a consortium of indigenous energy firms that executed a pivotal acquisition of the complete equity stake in Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC), valued at $2.4 billion.
Ojulari’s professional journey began as Nigeria’s first process engineer at Elf Aquitaine, before transitioning to Shell Petroleum Development Company in 1991. A proud native of Kwara State, he previously held the position of Managing Director at Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) from 2015 to 2021.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1985 – 1989) and is a respected fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Additionally, he served on the board of trustees of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE Nigeria Council) from 1998 to 1999, showcasing his commitment to the development of the engineering profession in Nigeria.
Throughout his career, Ojulari has held various managerial roles across Europe and the Middle East, focusing on petroleum engineering, process engineering, production engineering, and health and safety. In November 2015, he was appointed Managing Director of SNEPCo and General Manager, Deepwater. His leadership extended to the board of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), where he was responsible for overseeing both onshore and offshore operations, including petroleum engineering, technical integration of development, well engineering, and project engineering.
Ojulari’s diverse experience and strategic vision position him as a key figure in advancing Nigeria’s energy landscape.
