The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has commended Lagos State for its vibrant cultural scene, describing Lagos and London as “two of the most culturally dynamic cities in the world.”
Mayor Khan made this remark during his visit to Nike Art Gallery in Lagos, one of Nigeria’s foremost cultural institutions renowned for preserving the nation’s rich artistic heritage and nurturing a new generation of creative talents.
Speaking during the visit, the London Mayor expressed admiration for the role the gallery plays in promoting Nigeria’s art, culture, and creative industries.
“Fantastic to see Nike Art Gallery while in Lagos, a hub for preserving Nigeria’s rich artistic heritage and empowering a new generation of creatives,” Khan said.
His visit to Lagos aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen cultural and economic ties between London and African cities, particularly Lagos, which continues to grow as a major global center for arts, fashion, music, and technology.
Nike Art Gallery, founded by Chief (Mrs.) Nike Davies-Okundaye, remains a cornerstone in the promotion of African art and culture, attracting international visitors, collectors, and scholars.
Mayor Khan’s visit underscores the increasing recognition of Lagos as a global cultural capital and reflects the broader cultural diplomacy efforts between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
