Mali has witnessed its first significant pro-democracy protests in four years, following the military junta’s decision to dissolve all political parties.

Demonstrators in Bamako expressed opposition to the junta’s extended hold on power and the suppression of political freedoms.

Human rights organizations have raised concerns over the shrinking civic space and increased repression under Colonel Assimi Goita’s leadership.
