Republic of Kosovo Welcomes Kenya’s Recognition as Independent State

Pristina, Kosovo – October 18, 2023 – In a landmark diplomatic achievement, the Republic of Kosovo has officially welcomed Kenya’s recognition of its sovereignty, a significant stride in Kosovo’s quest for broader international acknowledgment. The affirmation comes on the heels of a decision signed by Kenyan President William Ruto.

President Vjosa Osmani took to social media to express her gratitude, describing the recognition as a vital endorsement of the rights of the Kosovo people to freedom, independence, and territorial integrity. “This recognition is a testimony to the ongoing support for the right of the people of Kosovo to freedom, independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” Osmani stated.

She further emphasized the historical sacrifices made by the Kosovo people in their pursuit of freedom, indicating that this decision reflects an understanding of their longstanding struggle. “On behalf of the institutions and citizens of Kosovo, I express my sincere thanks to Kenyan President William Ruto for this fair and important decision,” she added.

The recent recognition follows multiple discussions between Presidents Osmani and Ruto, where Kosovo’s sovereignty was a central topic. President Ruto assured the Kosovo leadership that the decision would be made swiftly and in accordance with international law, honoring the sacrifices of the Kosovo people.

President Osmani also acknowledged the efforts of former President and Minister of Foreign Affairs Behgjet Pacolli, underscoring the collaborative nature of Kosovo’s diplomatic endeavors.

As Kosovo celebrates this achievement, President Osmani foresees enhanced bilateral relations. “Relations between Kosovo and Kenya will deepen in various areas. We expect to establish diplomatic relations very soon, building a strong and long-term partnership between the two countries and our peoples,” she remarked.

This recognition marks a progressive step in Kosovo’s ongoing pursuit of international legitimacy and signals potential for deeper cooperation not only with Kenya but also with other nations across Africa. The acknowledgment adds to Kosovo’s efforts to solidify its global presence and enhance partnerships, as it navigates the complexities of international relations.

Since declaring independence from Serbia in 2008, Kosovo has faced challenges in gaining widespread recognition. Kenya’s decision opens new avenues for diplomatic collaborations, bolstering Kosovo’s aspirations for sustained sovereignty and stability in the Balkans.
