70,000 South Africans demonstrating interest in relocating to the U.S.

Trump Administration Offers Refuge to Afrikaners Amid South African Tensions.

In February 2025, President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order proposing that Afrikaners, the descendants of primarily Dutch settlers in South Africa, be granted refugee status in the United States due to what he described as “victims of unjust racial discrimination.” This announcement has garnered a significant response, with close to 70,000 South Africans demonstrating interest in relocating to the U.S. Following the administration’s offer, the South African Chamber of Commerce in the USA (Saccusa) reported that their website witnessed tens of thousands of registrations from individuals seeking further information about the resettlement process.

This initiative has emerged against a backdrop of increasingly strained relations between the United States and South Africa, particularly since Trump’s presidency began in January. As the situation continues to unfold, the implications for immigration policy and international relations remain a critical area of focus.
